A&A Poleaxe
Bought in March 2012
This is a slightly non-standard version of the A&A Knightly Poleaxe, in that the
haft is maybe 4-5 inches shorter than normal, but adds a butt-spike in the place
of these last few inches.
Based on an original in the Wallace Collection, this piece captures the
subtle beauty of a period poleaxe. Our theory is that the orignal piece
used to be much longer, and sometime over the course of the centuries, the
haft was replaced or shortended. The balance suggests that the rondel
hand-guard should be about 5 inches further toward the head, OR the
haft should be maybe another 18 to 24 inches longer.
Still, a very beautiful and deadly weapon!
