"Dagger Dan" Heinecke Bone-Hilted Dagger
purchased in 2007
This was my third "Dagger Dan" piece. Dan Heinecke is primarily
a knife and dagger maker who, as far as I know, only sells his
finely crafted wares through his booth at the Maryland Renaissance
Festival. His work has become well respected amongst the patrons
at this renfest.
The edge is quite sharp, with a mirror-polished finish. Dan casts
the brass fittings directly onto the tang and does differential
tempering. The grip on this piece is bone, and the ricasso
allows for a finger to be placed forward of the guard for
additional control and strength.
The marks on the white bone are not scratches or dirt. It's the natural
coloration/grain of the bone, which is polished to a smooth surface.
