I have always loved the look of the mid-13th century knights featured in the
Maciejowski Bible. While very little actual arms and armor from the period have
survived, sources such as that manuscript give us a great deal of information
about what knights looked like and what equipment was used. Despite the cartoonish
appearance, there is an enormous attention to detail.
For this photo-op, I did not wear the mail chausses on my legs, due to time
constraints, but this is a complete kit. It includes a custom-made aketon,
over which there is a riveted steel mail hauberk, and a custom fitted helm.
The weapon is a "chopper" as depicted in the manuscript, and the helm is
styled based on the artwork as well.
