2008 - Weapons/Armor

My new aluminum chainmail shirts from ThinkGeek arrived.
The second one pictured here is still in it's brick-like wrapping. They
also come with a small bag of spare links, which is really nice!
The links are 5/16" inner diameter, and I'm estimating it's 16g wire thickness. The
shirt is roughly the same overall size as the aluminum hauberk I've been trying to
finish up for all these years. :) This is the "Large" size, and it hangs to
about 5-6" above my knee, and the sleeves just cover the elbows.
My plan is to hack up at least one of them to make leggings/chausses. It's
a cost-effective way to get large rectangles to do projects like this. I'll
hack up the second one if necessary. It looks like I can do it with one though.
I need roughly a 24" x 30" sheet to make each leg, and the shirt is about 24x30
for the torso, laid out on the floor for this picture.

The new shield blanks. The one on the left is an aluminum shield blank
intended for SCA combat. The one on the right is a Windlass shield, made
of wood and pre-strapped, and canvas-covered.
